Join us for Family University 2025! This event, scheduled for March 29, 2025 at Booker T. Washington High School, is designed to support our mission to facilitate strategic, authentic, and engaging literacy instruction to develop college and career-ready learners who are able to read, write, communicate, and think critically in a global society. The full day program is structured for families of PreK-12 students in our school system. It will consist of an opening speaker, interactive sessions to address reading and math literacy, Career and Technical Education presentations, and interactive STEAM sessions for students. The NPS Department of Human Resources will also be recruiting and providing information on available jobs. It is our hope that you will leave the event empowered and equipped with ideas and materials to engage with your children at home.

Families will also learn about platforms and resources used at school and at home to explore scientific phenomena.
Participants will receive background information on why the development of fine motor and gross motor skills are vital to student success. The presenter will share a variety of family-friendly activities and strategies, including make and take items to use at home with their students.
This exciting digital tool personalizes learning for your student. It starts by targeting each child's academic strengths and weaknesses with an adaptive assessment, and then prescribes a tailored learning path of lessons, practices, and assessments based on specific strengths and needs. Your child uses this program at school, but they can also continue learning at home. Students in grades K-8 use it for math, and students in 9th grade use it fir reading.
Gifted students often avoid challenges because they may not have experienced difficulty before, but without experiencing struggle, student may not develop the skills needed to handle future challenges, leading to underachievement. This session will review the importance of “productive struggle” and how parents can best support their student’s success.

An individualized education program (IEP) is a written statement/plan designed to meet a student’s disability-based needs. The IEP should provide information specific to the student and geared towards providing students access to the education curriculum.
This training is designed to provide parents, guardians and caretakers with a brief overview of the different components that make up the IEP (Individualized Learning Plan).
